Nutritious and Delicious Meals – In the Comfort of Your Home.
Meals on Wheels Preparation site to go to new/permanent home!
MEALS ON WHEELS
After 30+ years the Meals on Wheels program is moving to its new and permanent location!
You may have heard our exciting news at St. Crispin Living Community... we are going to build a new state of the art structure (to be connected to the Villa) at the 213 Pioneer Rd. location! We are so excited! This location will be the new and permanent home to the Meals on Wheels program.
Due to the expanded resident volume at the Care Center, (formerly called Seminary Home), and the difficulty with future parking we have decided to help everyone by moving the Meals on Wheels preparation and distribution to the Villa location 213 Pioneer Rd. (formerly called St. Brigid’s at Hi-Park). Drivers for the program will enter the driveway to the long-term care center, not the locked Villa entrance, with the round-about/awning.
We are so grateful to all of our drivers! The program would not be a success without them.
Meals on Wheels provides excellent, nutritious meals delivered to elderly, disabled and homebound residents either on a short-term or long-term basis. Clients may be recovering from a hospital stay, an injury or a disabling illness. Meals are provided five days a week, as long as necessary.
Meals are delivered to individuals in the Red Wing area. The program currently serves 12,000 meals annually, about 75 meals a day. There are approximately 20 volunteers, Proact and the Red Wing Shoe employees help deliver the meals. There are four routes, two volunteers per route daily. Eight helpers each day.
Meals on Wheels is financially supported by a United Way grant.
Request Meals on Wheels
Requests for Meals on Wheels services can be made by family, friends, health care provider or self. To be eligible for Meals on Wheels, participant must be:
- 18 year of age or older
- Unable to shop or prepare own food due to illness or frailty
- Living alone or with someone who is unable to prepare meals or is absent during the day
To receive county subsidized meals, clients need to be referred by a physician, hospital, nursing home or home health agency. There is an application that must be completed over the phone. No referral of application is needed for clients who are paying for the meals privately. Call to set up delivery and for pricing.
Volunteers Needed to Deliver Meals
Meals on Wheels program is looking for volunteers to pick up meals in Red Wing (906 College Ave.) and deliver to someone who may live near you. Meals are delivered daily, Monday-Friday between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., schedules are flexible. The meals are ready for pick up on days that work for you! This rewarding volunteer opportunity is a great way to help your neighbors.
Volunteers are important, not only because they deliver meals, but because of the connections and relationships they form with clients. For many home bound individuals the daily Meals on Wheels delivery is a highlight of their day. Drivers use their own vehicles and receive a small gas stipend and reimbursement for mileage is tax-deductible. If interested, please fill out the application and give us a call.
